South Africa's Best20 Day Motorhome Tour: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Blyde River Canyon, Kruger Park, Swaziland, St Lucia Game Reserve, Durban, Wild Coast, Sunshine Coast, East London, Addo Elephant National Park, Tsitsikamma, Garden Route, Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Cape Agulhas, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town. Day 1 Arrive at Johannesburg International Airport. Transfer to our office. Complete all the necessary paperwork with the aid of one of the helpful staff and go over all the vehicle's operations. Our first camp site is in the 120 year old mountain village of Dullstroom. At about 2100 m above sea-level, Dullstroom is one of the highest villages in South Africa. It is well known for its fly-fishing venues. (±260 km)
Day 2 Today we head in an easterly direction towards the beautiful area of Mpumalanga. We take the scenic drive, via Pilgrim's Rest and the Panorama Route with beautiful views of the Blyde River Canyon, the worlds 3rd largest canyon. We visit places like, God's Window, Mac Mac Falls, Three Rondawels, Bourkes Luck Potholes, etc. Our camp site is on the banks of the Sabie River in Sabie. (±280 km)
Day 3 During the morning we enter the Kruger National Park. The rest of the day can be spent game viewing in the Park or you can relax at our campsite in Skukuza. (±150 km)
Day 4 Today we explore the Park on our way south to Berg en Dal, our camp site for the night. (±160 km)
Day 5 After an early morning game-drive in our own vehicles, we leave the Kruger Park through the Malelane Gate. We head down south and enter Swaziland through the Matsamo border, we have ample time for site seeing and visits to the glass factory, the Swazi candle factory, etc. We overnight at the Nisela Safaris camping site. (±395 km)
Day 6 We leave Swaziland through the Golela border post and head for the beautiful area of Maputuland, a region of, unspoilt beaches, freshwater lakes, sand forests, wetlands systems and bushveld. Our next camp site is in St. Lucia, World Heritage Site. St. Lucia Lake and its surroundings comprise a wetland of global importance. The reserve contains some of the highest forested dunes in the world, as well as swamp and sand forest, palm veld and various woodland vegetation types. Wildlife includes black rhino, suni, pangolin and red duiker; marine turtles, breeding populations of pink-backed pelicans, Caspian terns, flamingos and the largest crocodile, hippo and reedbuck populations in South Africa. In the late afternoon you can go on a boat cruise on Lake St. Lucia. (±140 km)
Day 7 We travel down the KwaZulu Natal North Coast, visit the Golden Mile Beach Promenade in Durban, before heading further down to our camp site in Scottburgh on the South Coast. (± 350 km)
Day 8 Our destination today is Coffee Bay. We travel along the spectacular Transkei Wild Coast, stopping at Port St Johns for lunch. (±475 km)
Day 9 We stay in Coffee Bay, you can visit the well known "hole-in-the-wall", go on hikes in the area or just relax on our camping site.
Day 10 Our next stop is East London on the Sunshine Coast, where we set up camp at the Lagoon Valley Holiday Resort. (±320 km)
Day 11 We leave the coast and travel to the Addo Elephant National Park. You will have ample time to go out on a game drive in search for the over 200 elephants, Cape buffalo and a variety of antelope species.(±300 km)
Day 12 Our camp for the night is in the Tsitsikamma National Park. You will enjoy exploring the "jungle-like" Tsitsikamma forest area with its old high trees, fynbos and rocky ravines. (±285 km)
Day 13 We travel further along the coast on the famous Garden Route via Plettenberg Bay to the small coastal town of Knysna. Here we set up camp at the Woodbourne Resort, close to the Indian Ocean. (±100 km)
Day 14 You have a full day to explore all Knysna has to offer; souvenir shopping, hiking along the Lagoon, boat rides, etc.
Day 15 We continue our tour via George to Oudtshoorn. There is ample time to explore the area and visit an Ostrich Farm, for which Oudtshoorn is famous, Kango Caves, etc.(±150 km)
Day 16 Travel to the most southern tip of the African continent, Cape Augulhas. This is the point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Our campsite, in Struisbaai, is nearby. We will have the time to explore the Park and visit the second oldest working lighthouse in Southern Africa at Cape Agulhas, or take a walk on one of the nature trails in this unique fynbos area.(±375 km)
Day 17 We are heading in a northerly direction through the famous Cape Wineland region to our next overnight campsite at the Berg River Resort close to Paarl. (±250 km)
Day 18 We take a leisurely drive via Stellenbosch and Somerset West to Simon's Town, which lies on the foot of the mountains just south of Cape Town. Our camping for the next night is at Oatlands Holiday Village. During this day we have ample time to explore the area east of Cape Town. (±250 km)
Day 19 Today we explore the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, visit Cape Town, Table Mountain, Victoria Alfred Waterfront, etc. Our campsite for the night is just north of Cape Town at the Ou Skip Caravan Park close to Melkbosstrand. (±150 km)
Day 20 This is our last day in the camper, after a leisurely drive through the area we return our campers to the Maui office in Brackenfell, just east of Cape Town center. (±30 km) Transfer to the Cape Town International Airport and flight back home.
