Shibula Lodge & Bush Spa is situated in the malaria free Welgevonden Big Five Private Game Reserve in the Waterberg, only two and a half hours drive North of Johannesburg. Nestled in the unspoilt wilderness of the Waterberg, Shibula Lodge and bush spa offers the discerning visitor a luxurious taste of wild Africa, combined with the sophisticated pampering of a health spa.

ImpalaSuperbly situated, close to the best game viewing areas, in the Welgevonden Game Reserve of the Limpopo (Northern) Province, Shibula Lodge hugs the banks of a scenic river and has magnificent views of the overhanging cliffs where guests are entertained by the daily activities of the resident baboon troops.

This malaria free game reserve, where the Big Five (Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Lion and Buffalo) roam freely, is home to an extraordinary diversity of plants and animal life, as well as more than 270 bird species. With access to the entire 33,000ha reserve which forms part of a bigger 98,000ha game reserve guests are assured of exceptional game viewing - including the bets rhino sightings on the continent whilst wild dogs and spotted hyena also roam the area.

Shibula Lodge and Bush Spa offers nine luxurious chalets and suites, each with private patio's en suite bath rooms, inside and outside showers, Victorian baths and mini bars (TV on request).

Rates include: Luxurious en-suite accommodation, breakfast/brunch, dinner, afternoon tea + cake, coffees, biscuits in room, • Two open Land Rover safaris a day and sundowner, • Walking safaris accompanied by experienced trackers, • Return game drive transfers from the Welgevonden Main gate or Shibula airstrip to the lodge, • VAT, • 1% tourism levy.

Rates exclude: Telephone calls, laundry and valet services and gratuity, • Purchases from the lodge, • Drinks, incl. mini bar in chalet & wines from our cellar + wine list • Transfers either by air or road, • Health spa facilities (to book spa & beauty treatments: contact reservations).

Children policy: Children sharing with parents pay 50% of adult rate. Note: Children under the age of 10 years will only be allowed on the lodge by prior arrangement and taking existing reservations into consideration.

Booking & Payment details: Reservations are confirmed in writing via fax or email and all require a 50% deposit within 7 days. Final confirmation of booking is only made on receipt of above-mentioned payment. Full prepayment is due within 4 weeks prior to guests arrival. Short term bookings: Full payment 14 days prior to arrival.

Cancellation policy: Should the reservation be cancelled:
More than six weeks prior to travel - an admin fee of ZAR 200 will be charged
Between six and four weeks of arrival - 25% of the total amount will be forfeited
Within four and two weeks of arrival - 50% of the total amount will be forfeited
Less than 14 days of arrival - 100% of the total amount will be forfeited

Insurance: It is highly recommended that all passengers take out comprehensive travel insurance including full medical cover, as well as cancellation and curtailment cover. The lodge has an emergency medical fly in service for emergencies.

Facilities: Central living area, Boma, Wine cellar, curio shop & Library, Swimming pool & Private pools/jacuzzi’s, Bush Spa, Gym & a Bush conference room.

Activities: Open vehicle game drives, bush walks, stargazing, bush dining, Aromatherapy, Reflexology and full beauty treatments.

What to take: Walking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock, cameras, binoculars, light clothing and swimming costumes in summer and in winter warm clothing and jackets.

Climate:
Summer (Oct - Mar). Rainy season: hot days, warm nights. 25° - 40° Celsius.
Winter (Apr - Sep). Dry season: generally warm days, cold nights. 5° - 25° Celsius.

Road Directions from Johannesburg: Take the R21 from Johannesburg International Airport north towards Pretoria, take the N1 Pietersburg (north) turn off. From there follow the N1 to the Nylstroom (R33) turn off (approx. 120 km). Turn left and drive straight through Nylstroom to Vaalwater (approx. 60 km). Drive through Vaalwater (the Black Adder curio shop on your right) straight on for approx. 25 km. You will see the Welgevonden Main Gate sign. There is no Shibula Lodge sign, only a Welgevonden Main Gate sign.

Arrival Times & Transfers: Road transfer to Shibula Lodge takes 2h30 hours by road from Johannesburg; or 45 minutes by private air charter. Due to the 45 minutes drive from the main gate to Shibula. Arrival times at the main gate is 13h00 & 16h30. Differing arrival times can be arranged at an additional cost of ZAR 300 per transfer.
